Healing in Body and Spirit: A Journey of Recovery

I couldn’t let this month come to an end without taking a moment to encourage the women of God. Over a month ago, I underwent surgery, and since then I’ve been walking through a season of recovery, one that my surgeon carefully outlined with instructions, limits, and time for rest. But as I’ve been healing physically, I’ve found my heart turning again and again to the deeper truth of spiritual restoration.

Recovery, whether physical or spiritual, is rarely instant. It requires patience, trust, and a willingness to submit to a process we don’t always fully understand. After surgery, I had to accept that I couldn’t move the way I used to. I had to slow down, listen, and follow guidance for my healing. In the same way, God often calls us into seasons where we must pause and allow Him to restore us from the inside out.

The Bible reminds us in Psalm 147:3, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Notice that God doesn’t just heal He binds. There is a process, a careful tending to the wound. Just like a surgeon repair what is broken in the body, God lovingly restores what has been wounded in our spirit.

During my recovery, I realized how easy it is to want to rush healing. We want to get back to normal, to regain strength quickly. But rushing physical recovery can cause setbacks and the same is true spiritually. When we try to bypass God’s process, we risk reopening wounds that He is trying to heal. Isaiah 40:31 encourages us: “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.”

Waiting is not passive; it is an active trust in God’s timing. Just as my body needs time to regain strength, my spirit needs time in His presence to be renewed.

There were days in this past month when I felt weak, limited, and even frustrated. Yet in those moments, I sensed God gently reminding me that weakness is not failure it is an invitation. An invitation to depend on Him more deeply. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” What a powerful truth: in our weakest moments, His strength is most visible.

To the women of God, I want to encourage you: whatever season you are in whether it’s physical healing, emotional recovery, or spiritual renewal God is present in the process. Don’t rush it. Don’t resist it. Trust that He is doing a deeper work within you. Just as I have had to follow instructions for my physical healing, resting, nourishing my body, and being patient, we are also given spiritual instructions: pray, stay in the Word, and remain in His presence. These are not restrictions; they are pathways to restoration.

Recovery is not a sign that something is wrong, it's a sign that healing is happening.

So today, let’s embrace the process. Let’s honor the seasons God places us in, even the slower ones. And let’s remember that the same God who designed our bodies to heal has also made a way for our souls to be restored. Be encouraged: healing is happening, even when you cannot yet see the full result.

With love and encouragement,

Keep trusting the process God is not finished with you yet.
