Closing One Season Enter Another

Sis, Wednesday night in Bible study, the Woman of God taught a powerful message titled “From Poor to Pour.” The lesson came from 2 Kings 4:1–7, the story of the widow woman who obeyed the prophet’s instruction to borrow vessels so the oil she carried could be poured, multiplied, and sold to change her situation. As the Word was taught, I found myself sitting quietly, doing something deeply personal, I began to search my own heart.

God has called each and every one of us to pour. To release what He has placed inside of us into the vessels He assigns. But as this year comes to a close and we prepare to step into a new season, I had to ask myself a hard and honest question: Have I truly been obedient to the command God gave me?

I prayed, “Father, have I been pouring… or have I been poor?”

Not poor in material things, but poor in obedience. Poor in focus. Poor in alignment. I realized I had spent too much time sulking in my own issues, pouring into my pain, my frustrations, and my disappointments instead of pouring into the people, purposes, and assignments God entrusted to me. The widow woman could have allowed her grief, fear, or lack to paralyze her. Instead, she chose obedience. She borrowed vessels, many vessels, and poured until there were no more left. The oil didn’t stop because God ran out; it stopped because there were no more vessels to receive.

That revelation stayed with me.

As one season ends, I began to ask myself: How many vessels did I overlook this year because I was focused on what I was going through instead of what God was calling me to do? How many opportunities to pour did I delay because I allowed my issues to take center stage? This teaching reminded me that every season requires obedience, and every new season demands alignment. God does not carry our oil from one year to the next for us to hold onto it is meant to be poured out. And when we pour in obedience, God ensures there is enough for what’s next.

As we prepare to step into a new year, I believe God is calling us to examine what we are carrying and where we are pouring. This is a time to release old mindsets, old distractions, and misplaced focus. A time to stop pouring into what drains us and start pouring into what God has assigned.

This is my testimony and my encouragement to you: don’t enter a new season holding back the oil from the last one. Your issues may be real, but they are not your assignment. God placed oil inside of you for such a time as this, and obedience is the key that unlocks overflow.

When you pour into the vessel God assigns whether it’s a person, a ministry, a purpose, or a calling there is a great reward. Not only provision, but peace. Not only increase, but clarity. Not only survival, but fulfillment.

As this year closes and a new one begins, may we all make the decision to move from poor to pour. May we walk into the next season obedient, aligned, and ready to release everything God has placed in our hands. Because when the season changes and obedience meets faith, the oil will always be enough.
